It's been a minute, thought we’d share a few thoughts and musings about the current state of the markets.
Regardless, we continue to stand by our mantra "Patience wins."
We are convinced that #Energy, #Metals, #potash, #OilandGas, #Uranium - #commodities in general will out-perform the markets in the end.
#Gold's resilience and current resurgence to $2000 USD in our opinion is a perfect example that in uncertain times, the above-mentioned investment vehicles are still THE store of value.
We are constantly reminded that in times of conflict, deglobalization and uncertainty it is more important than ever to go back to basics.
When emotions vie to become the "engine and not the caboose" is one of the first red flags that requires our attention.
Recentering, going back to basics, fundamentals; whatever one wants to call it is paramount. Questions such as:
- Has there been a "material change" in the stock itself?
- Has there been a fundamental change in the stock's underlying asset or commodity?
- What is happening globally that could be affecting an investment or assets price (Macro)?
- Are the above scenarios permanent or temporary in nature?
After a quick triage, we are left with a few options. we can sit tight, sell and of course look for opportunities to buy and average down.
In our opinion, the above questions should be reflected upon on a regular basis, especially in more volatile junior markets. All a part of good housekeeping and portfolio management.
We cannot emphasize enough the practice of personal Due diligence. Analysis from others is certainly welcomed, however if that is the sole foundational pillar of one's vetting process, it opens a person up to be highly influenced by extraneous sources, helpful, hurtful or otherwise - we become unstable, filled with uncertainly and emotionally invested in every uptick and downtick in a particular investment.
Experience and conviction in a personal process can allow one to develop a cast-iron stomach for volatile times and hold fast to the fundamentals, intrinsic value, financial health, and timelines of a company.
No one "bats 1000" however a prudent, non-reactive methodical approach is a pillar to long term success in the markets.
Mr. Buffett astutely noted:
"The stock market is a device for transferring money from the impatient to the patient."
“You only have to do a very few things right in your life so long as you don’t do too many things wrong.”
The more we are able to "zoom out" the more opportunities for value emerge.
Looking at the most successful investors of all-time there is a congruent trend -
They were not in a rush.
Flipping for pennies is labour intensive and rarely results in the type of wealth generation that investors are looking for.
