#Thysanoptera (#Paraneoptera, #Insecta) are a monophyletic group of fairly small insects (1-3 mm long), of which a considerable number of species act as plant suckers, i.e. #parasitize on #plants, with #galls also being formed in some taxa. A large number of species also feed on #fungi, often in #deadwood, and can also be facultative predators by sucking insect eggs or smaller arthropods such as #mites. Thysanoptera therefore play a role as members of the ecological community of forest floor decomposers, although there they are pests and predators and do not decompose wood themselves, but the wood-decomposing fungi.
For example, according to Hu Li et al. (2015), the Thysanoptera can be seen as #sistergroup to the #Hemiptera in the phylogenetic tree of insects. Hemiptera include, among others, plant lice, cicadas and bugs (Heteroptera). Special characters of the Thysanoptera are conspicuous #hairfringes on the #wing edges, which increase the wing area that can be used when flying. However, there are also taxa with #wingless individuals, then mostly concerning #males. Important #morphological characters of the Thysanoptera are also bladder-like #suctioncups on the tarsi of the #legs, which support the animals while climbing. In some taxa, haploid #parthenogenesis occurs, where unfertilized eggs become males. Thysanoptera are #spread primarily by #winds, sometimes over very long distances, even across oceans.

Rachel K Skinner @onychophora1929 is telling us about #Paraneoptera's phylogeny. An interesting talk about unstable relationships between different lineages.
