#Parkwatch: The Results - @MakeSpaceforGi1
In May 2023, Make Space for Girls asked people to take part in a citizen science project, counting how many teenagers were using the facilities in their local park, and how many of these were girls.
For the first time we have proper data on who is using the MUGAs (Multi-Use Games Areas – fenced pitches or cages), skate parks and BMX tracks.

The results are both shocking and not surprising at all 📖👀👇🏼
The short summary is that 90% of the facilities out there are dominated by boys, who are 90% of the users.
The MUGAs, skate parks and BMX tracks are all dominated by boys. We are not designing our parks with teenage girls in mind.

ParkWatch - one more day to count! See @MakeSpaceforGi1 - Talking to my daughter and her friend yesterday, I found out more about why they haven’t skated in our skatepark since they were 7…
Shortish Thread…🧵

This bank holiday is #ParkWatch - to help @MakeSpaceforGi1 understand which and how teenagers are using skateparks, MUGAs. I counted 9 pre-teens enjoying local skatepark with 3 mums/1 sister sitting at the side, but 0 teens (so was 0 for survey). Better seating needed IMO.
Excited that this has sort of come to fruition in the form of #parkwatch!
Where are you 👀 this weekend?!
