Time to leave the past in the past. Time is not well spent when focused on regrets.

This barrow at #Elmelunde is very interesting as well. A church was built right next to it in the Middle Ages. That prehistoric (and Roman) monuments served as focal points for churches in later times is a fairly common phenomenon. #Jelling is a famous example. #pastinthepast

A retro view on one of @howardmrw's first publications - a special issue of @WorldArchaeo completed while a PhD student @UniRdg_Arch investigating early Anlgo-Saxon cremation practices https://t.co/c9aLyQeGvY #archaeology #pastinthepast #heritage #AcademicTwitter
One of the star objects of our new displays at Craven Museum is this amethyst intaglio found in Hellifield.
Made during the Roman Empire, it was found in a Bronze Age barrow in 1885. It’s thought it may have been placed there as an offering.

@archae_delle You picked up some old pointy sharp stones when weeding the corn and wondered what they were for - are they the lands teardrops or evidence of your ancestral forbears. Never mind - i'll tuck them in this small hole by the door to offer protection and good luck

For #EpigraphyTuesday one of the most curious objects of our collections: A so-called Keraunia (thunderstone) – a Neolithic stone axe that was inscribed in #Roman times with a magic inscription in Greek letters, ... 1/3

@SueGreaney @LeMoustier @preshitorian really worth seeing the work of @mgknight24 @rew_the_day & @SocketedAxes on the #PastinthePast and the reuse of prehistoric objects and the resetting of narratives in later contexts

Thanks to Mette Langbroeck and Femke Lippok (@FemkeL) for their fair and detailed review of our volume. Really delighted to see it being well-received and looking forward to what comes next in this field #pastinthepast

Lovely Neolithic axe found at @SegedunumFort. The Romans did like to collect to their prehistory!#pastinthepast
When you hear a song on the radio that at one stage in your life you would turn off because it reminded you of painful times.... but now, you turn it right up knowing that you’re through the other side of that hurt and stronger for it!! #stronger #pastinthepast #looktothefuture
This reworking and reuse of an Iron Age coin in the early medieval period is simply stunning #pastinthepast
For those looking for something interesting (and FREE) to read: there's lots of great papers buried in this @Archaeopress edited volume published last year with @SocketedAxes @rew_the_day #pastinthepast #MondayMotivation
Out now! Objects of the Past in the Past - edited volume from @TAGCardiff 2017 with @BronzeDot & @rew_the_day. So unbelievably excited to see this published! Completely #openaccess & available here: https://t.co/aqRO1Gv5Ef

What you’re not willing to walk away from is where you’ll get stuck. If you don’t let go of the wrong people, you’ll never meet the right people. If someone is not adding value to your life, making you better, pushing you into your destiny, you need to make a change.
Was introduced to this beauty this week by @EllaPaul92. Roman intaglio depicting Juno set within a personalised medieval seal matrix. Found in Doune, Stirling, now in @NtlMuseumsScot #FindsFriday #pastinthepast

All ready for my talk tonight to Edinburgh University Archaeology Society @HCAatEdinburgh #pastinthepast

Reused Samian sherd converted to a gaming piece #pastinthepast
We've also had this reappropriated sherd of Samian ware (@mgknight24 !) which was made into a small circular gaming counter by reshaping it and smoothing down the edges. We only need eight more now for Nine Men's Morris! And seven more bone counters- then we're set!

What an amazing example of the #pastinthepast: a beautiful #Roman intaglio set with this ornate #AngloSaxon brooch.
Our museum collection contains some #hiddengems including this beautiful and rare Anglo-Saxon great square-headed brooch excavated from a burial site in Stratford-upon-Avon in the 1930s. Find out more here https://t.co/bQamW8skV4 #AngloSaxon #SBTCollections #Archaeology
