Patronizing is displaying a feeling of #superiority over others in a #condescending way. #Belittling is a synonym.
Effective communication requires skill - not just blurting out words.
People shut down when they feel they are being patronized, especially children.
When you treat others with respect, you not only get it back in return, you are teaching others what it is by showing it.
Keep your attitude and mannarisms in check. You may be turning people off without even realizing it. Children won't learn out of spite. I know that well, because I did it. 😡
I remember the people who "talked down" to me as a child. I wanted nothing from them. And I carry that feeling into my adulthood.
If you want to be heard, then don't patronize. And if someone is doing it to you, call them out on it. Say to them, "Stop patronizing me." They may not like to hear it, but they did.
Awareness creates change.
Being in a position of authority over someone doesn't grant them permission to be condescending or degrading.
