We were delighted to have Minister @jackfchambers of the Department of Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation opening this #PEACEPLUS event in Iveagh House: Peacebuilding in Action - Three Decades of Protecting Peace on the Island of Ireland.
Minister Chambers gave a very poignant reflection on the continued commitment of the Irish Government and partners to peacebuilding and cooperation, the challenges that have been overcome over the past 30 years, the challenges that remain and urged us all not to become complacent.
Thank you to Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs, @nealerichmond, who gave the audience an insight into his personal experiences of living in a border area before and after the Good Friday Agreement.
The event brought together politicians, ambassadors, policymakers, partners and project representatives, providing an opportunity to reflect on progress and to consider the role PEACEPLUS continues to play across Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland.
Our projects including CyberQuest (@bytesproject), the Shannonside Peace Arena (@leitrimcoco), the Community Alcohol Detox + Project (@CAWTCrossBorder), the Enterprise Fleet Replacement Programme (@Translink_NI), and Journeys (@springboardopp), provided a clear and impactful picture of how PEACEPLUS is supporting communities, improving connections and addressing shared challenges in practical ways.
Our thanks to all speakers, project representatives, and attendees for their thoughtful and constructive engagement.
@SEUPB Chief Executive @GinaMcIntyre24 said: “This engagement reflects the strong and ongoing commitment of the Irish Government, alongside our other funding partners, to supporting peace and reconciliation in practical and meaningful activities that contribute to peace and prosperity.
“That sustained support continues to make a real difference in communities and gives us confidence in the progress that can be achieved when we work together.”
Bringing partners and decision-makers together in a government setting remains important and demonstrated the value of sustained investment in peacebuilding, while creating space to share learning and to build on what has been achieved over three decades.

We were delighted to join the official launch of the Maximising Community Space (MCS) #PEACEPLUS project. Supported by PEACEPLUS and led by Rural Action in partnership with Irish Rural Link and the Northern Ireland Rural Women’s Network, the project will support community organisations to make shared spaces more inclusive, sustainable and better equipped to meet local needs.
Through training, networking and practical support, MCS will help rural communities strengthen connections, build leadership and maximise the potential of the spaces that bring people together.
SEUPB CEO Gina McIntyre said: “Projects like Maximising Community Space help create the conditions for continued progress – places where people feel safe, welcome and valued, and where relationships can grow naturally through shared experiences.
“PEACEPLUS will continue to support initiatives that empower communities, strengthen relationships and leave a lasting legacy of understanding and cooperation. Maximising Community Space reflects these aims perfectly – placing people at the centre of its work and helping rural communities create places where everyone feels they belong.”

A sincere thank you to @ninacarberry MEP for hosting Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) - European Funding at the European Parliament in Brussels and for her continued support of peace building and the #PEACEPLUS Programme.
This morning’s event brought together funders, policymakers, programme partners and project leaders to reflect on what sustained investment in peace has and continues to achieve.
It was a valuable opportunity to share real, lived experience from communities across Northern Ireland and the border counties, and to discuss how those lessons can inform reconciliation efforts elsewhere in Europe and beyond.
Across youth engagement, mental health, rural development, skills and innovation, and much more, the PEACEPLUS Programme continues to make a tangible difference, building on the legacy of its predecessors across the #PEACE and #INTERREG Programmes.
PEACEPLUS supports an array of transformational projects, including those delivering economic regeneration, environmental protection and shared learning, which in turn build trust, cooperation and long-term stability.
The voices of project leaders reminded us that peace is not a single moment, but a process that must be nurtured over time.
SEUPB Chief Executive @GinaMcIntyre24 said: “We are deeply grateful for the longstanding commitment of the European Union, the Governments of Ireland and the United Kingdom, and the Northern Ireland Executive, to successive PEACE Programmes and the current PEACEPLUS.
“Our society has come a long way, and while there is still work to do, we believe it is important to share what we have learned.
“Northern Ireland and the border counties are living evidence of what sustained support for peace can deliver, and of the strength that comes from working together.
“Thank you to all who joined the discussion and contributed to this important conversation about peace, partnership and shared learning.”
The event included a panel discussion featuring representatives from PEACEPLUS projects GRASP, Youthscape Plus, PRISM, STRIDE, Healthy Active Rural Communities (HARC), Right Support Right Time, and ACCEPT, who shared their insights and experiences on the delivery and impact of PEACEPLUS within their sectors and communities.
Thank you also to @Kathleensf1 and Aodhán Ó Ríordáin for their continued support and attendance.
