I agree with you, this Utah market has been tough. If you win, your policies could affect me so I checked out your platform… I think zoning reforms and streamlined permits is good—I especially love the vacant lot tax. I would ask you to please reconsider the investor regulation and rent control—both of which disrupt free markets and will exacerbate the problem you are trying to solve. I think financial incentives and home assistance are well-intended but miss the mark—I personally think it’s better to focus solely on market-driven solutions and efficient land taxation. Here’s some more ideas that I think could help us: 1. Land Value Tax: Replace property taxes with a tax solely on the value of the land, encouraging efficient use and reducing speculation. 2. Auction Public Land: Use auctions for underutilized public lands, driving efficient use and raising public revenue. 3. Deregulate Building Heights: Remove height restrictions to allow for high-density housing, increasing supply. 4. Eliminate Parking Minimums: Free up land for more valuable uses like housing by removing parking requirements. 5. Community Land Trusts: Enable communities to collectively manage and develop land, ensuring local needs are met. 6. Urban Growth Boundaries: Clearly define where urban development should and shouldn't occur to prevent sprawl and promote density. Best of luck with your campaign—we need more affordable housing in Utah!
