🟥 ⛏️ Orpiment is a vibrant orange-yellow arsenic sulfide mineral with the formula As2S3, crystallizing in the monoclinic system and exhibiting a resinous luster. 🔁 ❤️ #Orpiment #PeruvianMinerals 🎞 https://t.co/azK6mwcrg0 ▶️ It is relatively soft with a hardness between 1.5 and 2 on the Mohs scale and has a specific gravity around 3.5, making it noticeably dense for its appearance. Specimens from Peru often display wedge-shaped or bladed crystals up to several centimeters in size, sometimes aggregated with white barite or intergrown with red realgar, and can show a fiery translucence when backlit. ▶️ Geologically, orpiment forms in low-temperature hydrothermal settings, including veins, fumaroles, and hot springs, where it precipitates from arsenic-rich fluids or alters from other arsenic minerals like realgar. ↘️ In Peru, it is prominently associated with epithermal deposits in the Andes, such as those at the Quiruvilca Mine in the La Libertad region, where it occurs within polymetallic sulfide ores containing copper, lead, zinc, and silver at elevations exceeding 11,000 feet.
