Liberation correspondent @quatremer reveals there is a link with #piepergate and a possible Trump win:
"The ousting of Breton .. had been requested several times by Ursula von der Leyen, who hates this strong character who has not hesitated to put obstacles in her way and to criticise her publicly for her authoritarian mode of governance...
According to our information, the President of the Commission explained to Emmanuel Macron that she reproached Breton for having publicly obstructed the appointment, in April, of an MEP, Markus Pieper, as ‘EU SME Envoy’, a position that had previously been honorary, but was transformed for the occasion into a highly paid post (more than 20,000 euros per month for a four-year contract that could be extended by two years).

Especially as he will not overshadow the Head of State, unlike Thierry Breton. ‘Macron has appointed someone who will eat out of his hand," laments a French MEP..."

Markus Pieper's decision not to take up his post as SME is a win for the EU Parliament and civil society, the sole capable of ensuring integrity within the EU institutions.
Yet the #piepergate will remain a dark story of @vonderleyen Commission inevitably affecting her chances for another mandate.
