11/23 is often called Fibonacci Day because it has the first four terms of the Fibonacci Sequence: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21 .... How about #PingalaDay? The Indian mathematician and poet #Pingala wrote about the numbers 1300+ years earlier. #ITeachMath #MTbos #MultiverseOfMathness

Whoa.. that's a revelation. Didn't know that Fibonacci himself had the explicit reference to India. (For those who don't know - Pingala elaborated on the series a 1000 years before (likely around 200 BC)). Wow.. #PingalaDay instead of #FibonacciDay ?

In the introduction to his book, Fibonacci (c. 13th century CE) makes the following revelations 1) "I am the son of an official working in Bugia, Algeria". 2) There was a colony of Indian Merchants in that city. 3) "It was there that I was introduced to Indian Mathematics".
