Know your #conifers! #SwissStonePine, a/k/a #ArollaPine (#PinusCembra), is a #nativepine from central Europe that grows in a cone shape w/nearly horizontal branches. The needles, in groups of 5, are 2-5 inches long. If you're lucky, you may find them in the #CentralPark #Pinetum.

#Pinuscembra from the timberline (2050m a.s.l., #Tirol, Austria) showing a frost ring in 1171 CE. This indicates a harsh frost event during the early growing season (late May) that damaged cambium. This year is known as a #volcanic eruption year (as yet unidentified volcano).
