Plastic is often tangled in these plants, and can be mistaken for food by animals. Plastic pollution can also impact aquatic plant growth and reproduction.

The @enviropod_group #LittaTrap is installed in #stormwater catch basins to capture & remove a variety of pollutants, including plastic, that get carried in runoff, preventing them from entering our waterways.
For our next GLPC #CommunitySpotlight, letโs head to the waters of beautiful Georgian Bay and Thornbury Harbour @townofbluemtns! The marina joined the #GLPCleanup network back in 2020 and our #PlasticCaptureTechnology has been collecting litter in the harbour ever since!

Our volunteers & team sorted through 5,693 pieces of litter at waste characterization events in Cobourg, Innisfil, Kingston, Rockport, Toronto and Whitby. ๐๐ผ
#CommunitySpotlight: @trentportmarina in Trenton, ON is located in the #BayofQuinte on Lake Ontario, and joined the #GLPCleanup in 2020. On a typical day, their #PlasticCaptureTechnology collects 120 pieces of debris!

๐ฌ As part of the research team, Una Hogan (PhD Candidate) is analyzing the chemical composition of plastics in order to shed light on various pathways into the environment. We were pleased to share some of the plastic we have collected in our #PlasticCaptureTechnology for this!
A small village on the peninsula, Erieau is known for having some of the regionโs best fishing and warmest waters on Lake Erie! Erieau Marina is one of several locations on #LakeErie where the #GLPCleanup team uses #PlasticCaptureTechnology to collect plastic.
