Our first #PoemoftheWeek offering this year is “Come back” by Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin—a meditation on beginnings, on what exists before form, language, or technology fully arrive.

“We move with the lightness of being, and we will go / where there’s a place for us.”

In selecting this book as a 2016 Griffin Poetry Prize finalist, the judges wrote:
“Peerbaye’s language becomes a vehicle not just for exploring what others in the world may be capable of, but also of drawing readers into excruciating proximity with our own adolescent longing, fear, shame and rage.”

“Today, I am a new man, / a stranger in the town that bore me.”
Our #PoemoftheWeek is “Stranger” by `Scottish poet John Glenday, from his Griffin Poetry Prize–shortlisted collection 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣 (@picadorbooks).
As the 2010 Griffin Poetry Prize judges wrote:
“In John Glenday’s work we hear a calm, confiding voice. This is a mature work, Glenday writes slowly and out of necessity, and in 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣, his third collection, he has achieved a work of wry spiritual authority which never preaches or instructs.
Have you ever felt like a stranger in a place that once felt like home?

#poemoftheweek is "The Cynic" by Samuel Adeyemi.

Remembering Fanny Howe ❤️ An visionary poet, Howe received our Lifetime Recognition Award in 2023 and was twice shortlisted for the Griffin Poetry Prize: in 2001 and 2005.
This week’s #PoemoftheWeek comes from her 𝙎𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙋𝙤𝙚𝙢𝙨 (@ucpress), which the 2001 Griffin Poetry Prize judges praised for its ability to "articulate the inquisitive grace and courage of a secular contemplative, restoring to language its power to question the sacred in the interests of corporeal joy."
