@kristjan_mets Really cool models! What do you think the mechanism of transmission might be? Are different species roosting together or can they contract WNS from surfaces in roosts? #WBTC1 #PopBio1

5/5 #WBTC1 #PopBio1 Though only 2 species, cross-species infection for multi-species disease like WNS important. Future plans include more 🦇 species and sites. With limited ability to do field censuses, modeled WNS trajectories ⬆️ important than ever.

4/5 #WBTC1 #PopBio1 Addition of multi-roosts produces closer fit to observed spread, esp for E. fuscus. Avg deviation in model yr of infection ⬇️ w/ multi model. ⬇️ strength of cross-species infection, but greater rate of initial colony infection w/ both species modeled.

3/5 #WBTC1 #PopBio1 In multi-species model, infected of 1 🦇 species ⬆️ infection of other within 18 shared hibernacula. Model year infection estimate compared to known year. How do single-species models of each 🦇 compare to multi-species model?

2/5 #WBTC1 #PopBio1 I applied SIS disease modeling to 2 species: Myotis lucifugus and Eptesicus fuscus across 70 hibernacula in eastern 🇺🇸. @ all sites WNS arrived years ago, so there are known estimates for within-species transmission but not cross-species.

1/5 #WBTC1 #PopBio1 #WhiteNoseSyndrome has devastated 1000s of colonies of multiple 🦇 species in the past 12 years. Projections of WNS moving ⏩ are needed, but standard disease models struggle w/ multi-species transmission.

Building up a picture of #bat assemblages can be tricky! João aka @thebiologistjp shows us how important #bioacoustic data is as well as #bat_trapping for identifying species ranges. #WBTC1 #PopBio1 #ecoacoustics #bioacoustics #echolocation

5/5 #WBTC1 #PopBio1 This research evidences the importance of the use of bioacoustics as complementary methodology for a better bat community sampling, identifying species that difficultly are captured by mist nets

4/5 #WBTC1 #PopBio1 15 bat species were registrated exclusively by bioacoustics, discounting other six species that were registrated also by mist nets, revealing the richness of 36 species for Gaspar city. The P. macrotis record is the southest in Brazil.

2/5 #WBTC1 #PopBio1 21 bat species were registered by mist nets. We’d verified the significant temporal variation (p=0.019), denoting that the distincts condition of the seasons (temperature and wind) are responsible for the bat commuity variation over the year.

1/5 #WBTC1 #PopBio1 This research presents an analysis of the bat community. For this, two methodologies were used: mist nets and ultrasound records. The monitoring were realized in Gaspar city, Santa Catarina, South of Brazil.
