"Can post-Russia states learn from #Czechoslovakia's "Velvet Divorce "? Lessons Learned for the Peaceful Dissolution of the Russian Empire", - next public event of Free Nations #PostRussia Forum platform that will take place on June 17-18 in #Bratislava 👇
Defeat of #communism in #Europe was accompanied by disintegration of three multi-ethnic countries. Their disintegration demonstrated that there are various ways how disintegration can happen, leading to very different results. On one side of diapason of options is a bloody violent disintegration of #Yugoslavia resulting in a decade of wars. On the other side the “velvet divorce” of Czechs🇨🇿 and Slovaks🇸🇰
Disintegration of the #USSR gave mixed picture. The process and results of upcoming disintegration of the rest of #Russian empire - disguised last 34 years under Orwellian name “Russian Federation” - may too be mixture of both Yugoslavian and Czechoslovak experience. It is indeed the best interest of all inhabitants of current Russian empire, be them ethnic #Russians, or members of oppressed nations conquered by #Moscovia over the centuries of colonial expansion, to manage peaceful dissolution of the empire with quick post-disintegration economic and social recovery and lasting peace💯
Are there useful lessons that post-Russia elites may learn from Czechoslovak experience? It certainly is worth exploring. Relationships between Czechs and Slovaks were never poisoned by history of violent oppression, genocides and gulags as is reality between #Muscovy and the rest of current Russia. But the same is true about relationships between #Ural Russians and their #Bashkorts or Tatar neighbours, nor between #Siberian Russians and Buryats, Tuvans or #Sakha. They all were victims of their common enemy , the #Moscow #imperialism, not of neighbouring regions and their people. In addition to sustaining peaceful relationships with their neighbours, establishing new international relations and dealing with the crimes and grievances of the past, elites of the new post-Russia states will need to manage very fundamental tasks of sustaining public administration, transboundary trade, economy, new currencies, security, social security and pension systems and many other. Those were also tasks faced by Slovak and Czech elites after the “velvet divorce” in 1993🤝
This FNP Forum will be a different format that the previous ones. The main speakers will be senior Slovak and Czech politicians, diplomats and top economists who played active role during the period of Czechoslovakia´s disintegration and building the new states. Main task of the FNP Forum participants will be to listen, learn and of course, network, so the lessons of the “velvet divorce” as well as established contacts, can be used when the new world will start to emerge from the dust od Russian empire´s ruins💪
