As universities graduate new cohorts of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and clinical officers, their predecessors remain in limbo— qualified, yet still unposted by the MoH. This prolonged wait not only stalls their career progression but also represents a missed opportunity to plan our HRH development. There is an urgent need to prioritize Human Resources for Health (HRH) as a cornerstone of our health system.

Today, the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Dr. Deborah Mlongo Barasa, chaired a senior management meeting focused on aligning key Ministry activities with the broader priorities of the national government and the Ministry of Health.
The session featured updates from state departments, budget planning discussions, and a strong call for enhanced collaboration in resource allocation.
Waziri Barasa emphasized the importance of ring-fencing critical programmes—including vaccines, HIV/AIDS interventions, and Human Resources for Health (HRH)—to ensure sustainability and protect the progress made.
The meeting also reviewed ongoing progress in the implementation of the Social Health Authority (SHA), with an emphasis on addressing challenges to support a seamless and impactful rollout.
Additional agenda items included the National Equipment Support Programme (NESP), partner-funded projects, and the latest strategies in disease prevention and health promotion.
