What is stopping #Iran from launching a #preemptive_strike against #Israel to prevent it from destroying its #nuclear_facilities? During the setback, #Egypt suffered in the June 1967 war. The late President Gamal Abdel Nasser knew with certainty the timing of the Israeli attack, yet he did not act to thwart it. Instead, he relied, with excessive confidence,on a childish promise from his friend and army commander, Abdel Hakim Amer. Nasser, in an unforgivable historic blunder, embraced a naïve and completely non-military idea: that it was possible to absorb the first Israeli strike and then respond with a crushing blow later. Of course, that was more than enough to lose a war we hadn't even truly fought. Time has proven that in war, the first strike and the element of surprise are everything. That misplaced confidence cost us dearly ,then and still today.
