Top Tweets for #PreferentialVoting
Both @AustralianLabor and @LiberalAus will NEVER get my 1st preference in an election from here on in.
They both sold the great country of Australia out decades ago.
They know it. And we now know it.

.
If we had election tomorrow how many people would vote for Albanese?

Put TEALS, LABOR, and the GREENS last.
#PreferentialVoting
The current system keeps the two party system in place. Why can't other parties have a tilt? How many other countries have preferential voting? Not many. And it's for very good reasons. #Australia #PreferentialVoting

@EVERALDATLARGE Totally disagree that #preferentialvoting is failure.
How did you arrive at the answer "1" for additional choices? Perhaps each voter individually should decide how many choices, but prefer things as they are. The only people complaining are those whose favourite didn't win.
Totally agree that #preferentialvoting is failure but first past the post is not the answer. Every voter should get one alternative choice if their first choice does not get up.
Albo doesn't have a mandate, having received only 34.56% of the primary vote. Our preferential voting system fails us; first-past-the-post is more precise.
Have been complaining about #preferentialvoting for half a century. It allows no hoper candidate who get just a few votes to win by professionally planning to harvest preferences. Abuse of #democracy.
@EVERALDATLARGE I disagree. We have had this preferential voting system for over a century. It works. Candidates need to get 50% of the votes +1 to be elected. That is fair and democratic. Why are you complaining now?
Way in which #preferentialvoting is implemented in #Australia is wrong. Party that gets one third of votes & gets two thirds of seats is wrong. We should get only one alternative vote. In other words we say if my candidate does not win this is my second choice. There it ends.

Excellent from Shane Wright. Conservatives bleating about #PreferentialVoting deliberately misrepresent how it works and they know it. #auspol
Attacks on Aust’s #PreferentialVoting system, ludicrous. We can be proud of it- K.Bonham
#Auspol: Imitating idiot cousins in #US,#Right look for grievances in electoral system.Vanquished will eventually turn to non-existent fraud & voter ID demands. https://t.co/HYwF9LSOgy
It is important to add to the context of the Liberal and Liberal supporters stupidity. As our article below explains, the Conservatives (Liberals) put #Preferentialvoting in to HELP THEMSELVES.
They not only put it in place, THEY won more seats using PREFERENCES than ANY OTHER PARTY@!!!
HOW DUMB are the #LIBERALS? Arguing against a system they started and they won by - IDIOTS!

#3AW Tom Elliot is upset. Poor bubba.
They [liberals] invented preferential voting to keep Labor out.
Now it’s keeping the Libs out — and they want it gone.
Tom Elliott’s 3AW rant is just the start.
Preferential voting gives voters more power.
That’s why they’re trying to kill it.
Don’t fall for the gaslight.
Expose it.
🎙️ “They Invented It. Now They Hate It. Because It Worked.”
Noisy slaps down Tom Elliott’s 3AW rant to kill preferential voting
Let’s get one thing clear right up front:
👉 Preferential voting was brought in by the conservatives — the Liberals’ predecessors — to block Labor from gaining power.
They rigged the system back then to protect themselves from split votes on the right.
And for decades, it worked in their favour.
Until now.
Now that more Australians are preferencing independents, Greens, and Labor above the Liberal Party, they’re suddenly calling it unfair.
Enter: Tom Elliott.
Radio mic in hand, chin full of smug, running Murdoch’s latest message:
“Let’s get rid of preferential voting. It’s too confusing. First-past-the-post is simpler. That’s what the UK and US do!”
Nah mate.
This isn’t reform — it’s a tantrum.
The electoral equivalent of losing a soccer match and blaming the grass.
🧂 Let’s break it down:
🧠 1. “People don’t understand preferential voting!”
Right, so the answer is to dumb down democracy?
If the system is too tricky, educate the public, don’t bulldoze the entire framework because Dutton lost his seat.
Australians are perfectly capable of ranking Netflix shows, pub meals, and dating app profiles.
We can handle 1, 2, 3 on a ballot.
🗳️ 2. “First-past-the-post is what other countries do!”
And those countries have:
Rigid two-party systems
Votes that don’t count unless you’re in a swing seat
Voter turnout issues and tactical voting chaos
Australia’s preferential voting avoids all that crap.
It gives power to voters who don’t support a major party.
That’s how teals got in. That’s how independents rose. That’s how real change began.
That’s what they want to kill.
💀 3. “This isn’t about helping the Liberals!”
Of course not, Tom.
And Ted O’Brien is a climate warrior.
Let’s recap:
#Dutton lost Dickson on preferences
Liberals lost 13 seats they would’ve kept under FPTP
The Murdoch press is running cover stories about “a ministry of lost talent”
Tom Elliott pops up calling preferential voting “flawed”
This is not a coincidence.
It’s a coordinated media mood board for scrapping the one voting system that no longer guarantees them power.
🚨 The Real Play Here
This is a gaslight job in broad daylight:
Convince voters preferential voting is too hard.
Frame the outcome as unfair (even though it’s how democracy actually works).
Push for a system that benefits whoever can scrape together 35% of the vote — which is exactly what the Libs got.
This isn’t about clarity. It’s about control.
🧨 FINAL VERDICT
📌 Preferential voting was designed by conservatives to protect conservatives.
📌 Now it reflects modern voter sentiment — and they’re being wiped out.
📌 So instead of adapting to the public, they want to change the rules.
This isn’t democracy reform.
It’s a rigging attempt by sore losers with newspaper columns and radio mics.
Don’t buy it. Don’t let them spin it.
Don’t let the people who built preferential voting pretend to be its victims.
Liberals. Sore losers. Babies in suits.
Elliott rant in video below.
Australia is the only nation in the world where every single parliamentarian in the House of Government (the Reps) requires an absolute majority of all people who cast a vote in order to represent their electorate. Sounds like true democracy to me. #auspol #preferentialvoting
@rebaillieu @Mon4Kooyong 48k 1st pref votes for Hamer, 36k 1st pref votes for Ryan, & Ryan wins the seat ! Absolutely outrageous! Our electoral system needs reform. #auspol #kooyong #AEC2025 #preferentialvoting
What a ridiculous take. Everyone knows those voting Greens will put Labor ahead of Libs on preferences. They didn't need to explain that.
#Insiders
#PreferentialVoting
The “put-#Labor last” campaign from #Greens types was a selfish & dangerous attempt to drag down Labor to secure more power for the Greens.
They did’t care if Dutton ended up leading an LNP minority govt, cos their purity tests say Labor = LNP.
