@jjhorgan Great! Now you can ditch the #prevalencemodel because it’s inadequate and leaves vulnerable kids unsupported!

How the BC government will put more special needs kids at risk than ever & why parents need to get loud now.

Good post re concerns about the #PrevalenceModel for #bced funding that seems to be headed our way, over parents' and teachers' objections. #bcpoli https://t.co/OPvmyONwLE
But it seems trustees knew about the sneaky implementation (judging from this response letter) Really surprised that none of them spoke up if they were so concerned. This is a perfect example of when we need elected trustees to step up and speak up. #bced #PrevalenceModel

https://t.co/Zms8rL5a1R @bctf scary- can this come to #bc if we introduce #prevalencemodel? #bced #bcpoli
One of my primary concerns regarding #Prevalencemodel & #k12 #inclusion in #education is the assumption that there are teacher ed programs anywhere preparing & supporting teachers capable of the immense challenges of inclusion.#teachers #cdnpse #bced
There are a whole twack of us teachers who see #prevalencemodel as asking us to do More With Less Yet Again @Rob_Fleming. Then @tweetsomemoore chased all this down with some false accusations about union, tweets since deleted, called #bctf a bully, for which she has apologized.
That is why #moorewithless hit such a nerve this week with teachers. Shelley Moore @tweetsomemoore speaks passionately about inclusion, sends a message that resonates with many of us & has the skills to bring that message to a wide audience. She supports #prevalencemodel? #bced
If #prevalencemodel is better for our students, show us. Because right now it feels like a shell game. One only has to look at decimated gifted programs to see reality that funding evaporates when not pinned down. We know that more funding is needed. (Thx for chart @gthielmann)

Teachers are paying close attention to this proposed #prevalencemodel @Rob_Fleming so help us to understand how this is better for our students. Many of us have been fighting hard against our own government for so long to protect our students, that we are wary...and weary. #bced
I'm sure there are better ways to ensure supports. Just dont believe #Prevalencemodel is one of them. Agree that discussion is valuable. 1 thing we agree on-Kids w/ spec needs deserve adequate funding /better supports. #bctf #bced @Rob_Fleming @HorganPS
@sportyrupertgir They don’t deserve less, but there are better ways to ensure supports. But it’s ok if we disagree. It’s the discourse is how we figure this out.
If #Prevalencemodel implemented, targ funding for ind stud gone. Dist get pots of money w/ no accountability. Spec ed already underfunded. Zero incentive to find out ind. stud. needs through testing. Only those with $ to get kids tested able to advocate for supports. #bctf #bced
@sportyrupertgir @Rob_Fleming @HorganPS But this new funding model isn’t just prevalence, there are many other recommendations - that don’t rely solely on trends and/or stats.
% of GDP for ed has gone down #Prevalencemodel def worse. No accountability. Using stats/trends instead of actual data is wrong. Students deserve better. Govt must provide adeq funding/supports. Our kids and teachers are worth investing in. #bctf #bced @Rob_Fleming @HorganPS
@MovingParadigms But there is an increase in funding. And it’s not just statistics, it’s trends over time. We have the data. But the model isn’t just looking at trends. It’s considering community need too. In this way we can anticipate supports before kids show signs of struggle.
They won't. #PrevalenceModel will hurt kids, especially those who cant afford to get testing done to identify ind needs so teachers have info needed to meet them. Funding needs to be based on needs, not stats. #bctf #bced @Rob_Fleming @HorganPS @carolejames @JenniferRice6
That's why targeted funding for students is essential. #PrevalenceModel MUST GO! Takes away guarantees that districts spend money on identifying ind student needs. Funding based on stats instead of kids. Need to #investinkids #bced #bctf @Rob_Fleming @HorganPS @JenniferRice6
@DianeMcN @DyslexiaBC @TeriMooring @DianeMcN - could you share your thoughts on how fewer assessments& diagnosis would be a good thing for students, teachers & families ? #ADHD #LD #bced #PrevalenceModel
