Gov. Newsom just told Conan Nolan in an interview that in the 1960s there were 37,000 psychiatric beds (then in hospitals), today fewer than 6,000, and his solution is to buy hotels and house would-be patients there on a streamlined basis (means no community say in the matter).
During COVID in 2020, Governor Newsom announced #ProjectRoomkey, to move thousands of at-risk homeless people into hotel and motel rooms. Nearly a year since the end of the pandemic, counties haven’t been paid the money they’re owed for taking part in it.

This is problematic on several levels:
It means fewer dollars are available to purchase other properties
It’s an abuse of state #COVID #projectRoomkey funds allocated for emergency #housing
It’s another abuse of public trust by @theSDHC board members who fail to provide oversight & accountability
The Vice Chair of @theSDHC - @RyanClumpner- was appointed by @Kevin_Faulconer in 2018
In 2020: Faulconer's staff took possession of 20 #FEMA emergency #housing trailers under #ProjectRoomkey that have yet to be used by unsheltered #SanDiego residents
NOTE: #FEMA will reimburse @CityofSanDiego for wrap-around services for #homeless people staying in these trailers - but only until May 11 when the #COVID emergency expires
