Safe ✈️ back home, everyone! ❤️
On Sunday, I joined @hardestgeezer for his last leg of #projectafrica alongside hundreds of other runners for the most physically and mentally challenging yet rewarding day of my life.
There was a point when I was so hot and dehydrated that I nearly gave in. If not for the people I’d met who supported me, I don’t think I’d have been able to complete the run.
It put into perspective the insane magnitude of Russ’ journey over the last year (and beyond, including planning), yet the true scale of his journey is even harder to fathom now than it was before. He’s a true legend.
This wouldn’t be a LinkedIn post if I didn’t mention a few quick lessons I learned along the way:
- find people with similar interests
- it’s easier to talk to strangers than you think
- tough times don’t last, but tough people do
- failing to prepare is preparing to fail
- breaks are so important
I know they’re all cliche, but I discovered how true they are this weekend.
Donate if you can, he deserves it.
To put @hardestgeezer's achievement into perspective, we filmed this with him at the start of the Premier League season.
He was already 114 days into his #ProjectAfrica challenge and had 238 more days of running marathons ahead of him.
You're a legend, Russ! ❤️
The man was always destined for massive things, I sat down with him in September 2022 as the Africa trip was being planned. Incredible to think it was just an idea at that point!

The Hardest Geezer. The most incredible achievement. 💪
Russ Cook has finally finished his epic challenge, running the length of Africa - the equivalent of 385 marathons - in 352 days.
Simply sensational. 🏃♂️

Legendary feat 🤝 Hardest Gheezer #ProjectAfrica
The first person ever to run the entire length of Africa. Mission complete🫡
Is this one of the greatest running endeavours ever?
“Whatever happens, it will be one hell of a story,” said Russ Cook, aka the Hardest Geezer, just before beginning what seemed to most like an impossible adventure.
