While #TheImpactOfPromiseII may come to an end, the work to address GBV must continue. In Hoima, the knowledge, stronger systems and community champions built through the project should keep driving action and supporting survivors beyond its conclusion. #PromiseToProgress
PROMISE II’s work in Hoima has evolved over nearly eight years, beginning with community empowerment and capacity building, informed by a baseline assessment that highlighted key gaps and needs. #PromiseToProgress #TheImpactOfPromiseII

For Judith Suzan Nakalembe, Legal Aid Officer at @cehurduganda , the PROMISE journey has been about understanding community-level gaps and building the capacity needed to respond to SGBV. #TheImpactOfPromiseII #PromiseToProgress
Reflecting on the baseline findings in Hoima District, Judith notes that communities faced significant gaps in knowledge about SGBV, their rights, the law and available referral pathways. In some cases, survivors did not even recognize that what they had experienced was violence.
Through the project, communities have been sensitised on their rights, the law and where to seek support. Local structures have also been strengthened through training and the development of SGBV Champions—community actors who help identify cases, support survivors and connect them to appropriate services through the referral pathway.
For Judith, strengthening the response to SGBV means ensuring that communities are not only aware of the law, but are also equipped to act when violations occur.
From building knowledge to strengthening local response systems, the journey is about making support more accessible to survivors.
“GBV hinders development at the family level,” says Richard Kwekiriza, Senior Clinical Officer at Buralure HC III. He emphasises that ongoing community sensitisation is crucial, as reporting cases allows health workers to respond.

GBV is not a problem for a few people to solve.
As Prossy Namande reminds us, lasting change requires communities to speak up, take ownership and keep the work going beyond the life of a project.
