After being open for five years, the literature analytics service Prosecraft became the target for author backlash. Was AI truly to blame?

#AI #Prosecraft #Author
This is crazy, a bunch of "creatives(?)" hounded this man until he had to take down his website. The #Prosecraft website had no copyrighted work, actually no full prose work at all -- it only had technical analysis of each work.
the reason? the neo-luddite fear of AI of course
I took down the prosecraft website. I'm sorry, everyone. https://t.co/kKzF7Kj68f

The creator of #Prosecraft, the website that used over 25,000 authors books without consent, said he believed he was 'honoring the spirit of the Fair Use doctrine'.
But how DOES copyright law apply? Expert @TheDSingularity explains @ConversationEDU

Harass me if you want, but all this smack over #ProseCraft just shows how embarrassingly little the majority of people in the book biz know about AI. For starters, he didn't even use AI. He used very basic NLP. This over-reaction from authors, agents is embarrassing, you luddites
#Prosecraft is not a generative AI, the books feed into it are not used to produce new text the way chatgtp is. It's not an AI in any meaningful sense of the word. It's a model for data analysis
Hey #AuthorsOfTwitter, #Prosecraft’s theft and plagiarism of your books is EXACTLY what artists have been dealing with from MidJourney and Stability Diffusion for a year now. We need to show artists solidarity, we’re all in this together.
@ZachRoseWriter but in the meantime, please send an email to [email protected] with a link to your book, and I’ll remove it from the prosecraft website.
Yep, me too. I did not consent to this use of my work, #Prosecraft, and I am not being compensated for it.
#Prosecraft and @benji_smith here's video notice of my non consent to being harvested for your AI https://t.co/mxkuhdbw8E
Hi #Prosecraft please remove my books from your site, I do not support this outright theft of my work. Folx, please RT this so action gets taken pronto! https://t.co/mxkuhdbw8E
