We took the sidewalk on Michigan Ave and then scooted our way onto Monroe, then 8th St NE. Nearly, 3 miles in, and 8th St is the first road we are on without even a painted bike lane. We are getting so much closer to #ProtectedAndConnected!! #bikedc 4/?

With the #ProtectedandConnected #bikedc lane, this stretch of 17th helps create a comprehensive route from U Street all the way down town. It connect neighborhoods to each other as well as metro stops. 2/?

For example, 4th St is a bike corridor, thanks in part to the bike lanes north of Howard/around the reservoir. Should riders just hop on the new sidewalk here? Get on FL or RI Ave, then make left turns in traffic to get on NJ Ave and/or S St or whatever?

@DDOTDC Any action is appreciated, but what #BikeDC really needs is a complete #ProtectedAndConnected network, not bits & pieces of low-hanging mini-projects. The current situation presents a unique opportunity to do this quickly if the political will is there to make it happen!
@barredindc @DDOTDC Sorry to be contrary, but we are nowhere near a #BikeDC #ProtectedAndConnected network that is safe & comfortable for all those who would choose to ride if given the opportunity. @DDOTDC & @MayorBowser must accelerate and expand their efforts NOW to make this happen!
Also said that we have an opportunity to make the "boom" sustainable by moving NOW to create safe spaces to ride in our neighboorhoods & a #ProtectedAndConnected network throughout our communities, but we need visionary leadership to make this happen. #StillWaiting in #BikeDC...

Now if we can just get @DDOTDC to use the revenue raised (& it should be a substantial amount if they really implement enforcement & ticketing) to build a #ProtectedAndConnected network for #BikeDC, we'd be able to address two problems at once!
