#OTD in 2010: Qantas Flight 32, an A380 with 469 aboard, has an uncontained engine failure near Batam island (Indonesia). Debris damaged control systems and started a fire on engine #2. Crew was able to land safely in Singapore, no victims. Failure later traced to defective part.

12 years ago today, @RichardDeCrep and his crew safely returned a badly damaged Qantas A380 to Singapore after an uncontained engine failure and multiple system failures. The accident report https://t.co/LOMidSC5jg and Richard’s excellent book #QF32 are well worth a read.

QF32 was a team win, where 8 teams pooled their skills to survive a #BlackSwan event.
I am proud of everyone in those 8 teams, who were tested and proved themselves to be #resilient

#OTD in 2017: Air France Flight 66, an A380 with 521 aboard, has an uncontained engine failure over southern Greenland. Jet lands safely in Goose Bay (Canada) all aboard unharmed. Cause traced to metal fatigue: Factors: design, maintenance procedures, certification, others.
