It’s a wonderful tribute to all of the people and all of the effort that was made during the development process of #QuantumClass, #OasisClass and #IconClass vessels…
@NickWeirShowbiz What would Richard or Michael Bayley think of this drawing if they could see it?
A new edit of the “Dance In A Box” compilation video with multiple clips from all three projects.
This experimental entertainment series, featured across #QuantumClass, on the #Roboscreen (a 36-axes robotic video system that is unique in the world), pushes the limits of innovation in the world of entertainment, delivering results that can only be seen at @RoyalCaribbean.
Three individual film shoots were carried out, each one of which manipulated the physics of gravity (practically and in real-time, with no visual effects or CGI), in increasingly dramatic ways. The stunning content that was captured is then presented on video screens that can rotate, translate, pitch, roll, and yaw, (with six degrees of freedom), effectively “replaying” the experience of the live performance, perfectly.
Dance in a Box 1 – Manipulating one G of gravity, inspired by Sir Isaac Newton.
Dance in a Box 2 – Working with fluid dynamics and buoyancy, inspired by Archimedes of Syracuse.
Dance in a Box 3 – Capturing a performance in zero gravity, using the Equivalency Principle, inspired by Albert Einstein.
Playing on #QuantumClass vessels at @RoyalCaribbean.
It was the creation (and production) of these kind of highly complex totally unique entertainment projects that allowed me to separate Royal Caribbean International from all others.
The ground breaking “Dance in a Box” series (a STEM-centric entertainment project that pushed the boundaries of physics in the arts), was next level by any standard… But, by the humble standards of traditional “cruise ship entertainment”, it was totally unheard of.
It was even nominated for an award in Hollywood.
#TheBook is a very special theatrical production because it represents the absolute pinnacle of all that we created during a decade of creative exploration using the technology of the #two70 venues on #QuantumClass.
Here is the mini-sode from a couple of years ago all about the show on board #OdysseyoftheSeas.
“See the future, and figure out how to get there early…”
ahhh… the #two70 theatrical venue on the #QuantumClass!
My first big project for @RoyalCaribbean.
Starting out as the centralized location for three separate technological developments (the #Roboscreens system, the 12k #Vistarama video screen, and the radical design and automation systems of the stage and auditorium), I ended up combining everything and treating it all as a single entity, and creating entertainment in the “two70 format”.
#TheBook on #OdysseyoftheSeas isa great example of a production created in “two70”.
Over a decade ago @NickWeirShowbiz led the creation of this amazing theater space on the Quantum class ships. This is on Ovation the second of the 5 ships in the class I’ve been fortunate enough to observer it on.
Apropos and in reference to the below post; for those of you that haven’t had the pleasure of cruising on a #QuantumClass vessel, and therefore have not been able to experience the awe inspiring video-performance of the cast of #Oceanides, (and the amazing Roboscreen™️ technology of #two70), I offer this stunning split-screen version of #Oceanides.
This special combination shows you a locked off, fixed shot of the Roboscreen presentation (recorded live in the venue), together with a specially edited, 16:9 format version, using the original master video content.
You can watch the top one, to get a sense of the original experience, or the bottom one, and enjoy it as a movie… or you can scan between the two, and try to take in the spectacular beauty and the technical complexity, in it’s entirety, all at once. 🤯
Just remember tho, nothing is like watching it live.
This is another good reason to book thyself on a @RoyalCaribbean cruise, and go see all of the super cool, revolutionary content that was created over the past decade.
amen.
The Producers Guild of America (the PGA), of which I am a proud member, has announced the finalists for the 36th Annual Producers Guild Awards – Award for Innovation. (This award recognizes noteworthy, impactful emerging media that significantly elevates the audience’s viewing experience).
One of the biggest thrills of my career (so far), was taking a production created by a cruise line’s entertainment division, all the way to Hollywood, and competing with the big shots.
Our radical and revolutionary video-robotics production called “Oceanides”, was a proud finalist at the 32nd Awards Ceremony (in 2021), and although we didn’t win, it was a huge honor to be recognized, and I had a heck of a speech ready.
I took the cruise industry to Hollywood baby!
…next?
Over the past decade, the incredible, almost other-worldly technology in the #two70 venue on #QuantumClass vessels allowed me to push every conceivable live physical performance and video capture limitation beyond all previous limits. (Genuine entertainment history in the making)
There are entertainment experiences available in this unique auditorium, that cannot be found anywhere else on Earth.
The #Robotics powered #DanceInaBox “triptych” was a ten year creative odyssey and is unique in the world.
1) Dance In A Box (2014)
This first-of-a-kind featurette used choreographed movement with precise gravity vectoring. (The first ever cinematography where the set, the performers, the camera system, AND the playback screens are rotated, in synchronization).
2) Oceanides (2019)
The next iteration of content creation for the two70 Roboscreen™️ system, used sealable performance water tanks, on a rotating gimble, and a computerized camera system to capture the content.
– Where Dance in a Box was created in a 1G gravity field, Oceanides was created using neutral buoyancy.
3) Falling (2023)
The final, most complex installment, was created in the absence of gravity. The world’s first aerial performance by an artist in #ZeroGravity. Never been done, seeing is believing…
The @WildBoys were a huge part of the success of the #MusicHall concept back in the early days of #QuantumClass.
Also, me and the Royal entertainment team LOVED you guys! (Many great evenings spent together). Cheers!
See you in the future for sure…
@NickWeirShowbiz Good luck in the future Nick. Thanks for supporting us over all these years. Keep in touch 😎
Our #Roboscreen system is the cornerstone of our #QuantumClass technology, it’s a defining component of our #two70 format productions. Here’s a good demo of how it works. 6 individual screens that can move together or separately. video perspective is adjusted in synchronization.
First arrival in Hong Kong of #QuantumoftheSeas, way back when…
(Timelapse on my iPhone).
Being in Shanghai last week reminded me of how much fun it was to take #QuantumClass ships down to Asia. I think it was around 2014? I’ve been looking thru old posts. This is a pretty one.

There is no limit to our imagination or to our mission to entertain our audiences with unique content and experiences.
#RoyalCaribbeanEntertainment
Our 10 year entertainment project using our #QuantumClass #Roboscreen™️ system to manipulate the physics of gravity, how it interacts with performers, and adjust it’s strength and direction relative to performers (it’s vector), is nearly complete. #Falling is coming soon.
Or #VisionClass? Or #RadianceClass? Or #VoyagerClass? Or #FreedomClass Or #QuantumClass? Or #OasisClass?
So many possibilities, it’s such an iconic story…
@NickWeirShowbiz Icon or Utopia?
10th April 2016 saw the maiden arrival of @RoyalCaribbean #OvationoftheSeas into Southampton. What a sight to behold too 👍👍📷🛳️

It has been a year since I made this meme and it has been one that I have liked very much because it is true

As it happens Derek, we have been working on exactly that…
A few years of conceptualizing and designing, and a few years in the making (Covid slowed us down), but it will be very cool. #TimeCodingGravity #AdvancedRobotics

#2023
@NickWeirShowbiz If you wanted I’m sure you could find a way to control gravity.
#SpectrumoftheSeas is a Quantum-Ultra-class cruise ship currently operated by Royal Caribbean International and the first ship of the #QuantumUltra class, a modification from the company's #QuantumClass of ships.
