🌟 October has been a dynamic month of #RECMemberNetwork meetings across the UK! 🌟
From Aberdeen to Cardiff, we connected with recruitment professionals across the country, tackling key topics and sharing real-world insights. Here’s a look at the discussions that have been energizing our network this month:
Aberdeen with David Creighton: At our third Scotland meeting this year, members discussed IR35, windfall tax, the employment rights bill, ED&I, and the rise of hybrid working models. With a live legal update from our Legal Advice Manager, Melissa Mhondoro, it was great to hear members share their unique regional challenges and common goals, with AI, GB Energy, and sustainability taking centre stage.
Newcastle with Kelli McDonnel: The conversation here focused on the Employment Rights Bill, the upcoming Autumn Budget, and market changes that demand a more intensive focus on business development. Members also found value in exploring accessibility and inclusive recruitment, recognising how these elements open new doors.
York with Niamh Hough: In York, members had a lively discussion with HMRC around tax avoidance, payment practices, and changes in legislation. Totaljobs joined us to explore the potential of AI, which sparked mixed opinions among members – from cautious curiosity to enthusiastic implementation – leading to valuable conversations about AI’s role in recruitment.
Loughborough with Niamh Hough: At Neil Carberry’s session in Loughborough, Access Group joined us to lead a valuable talk on AI’s impact on recruitment. Members discussed adapting to shifting policies from the new government and shared strategies to overcome market challenges. Conversations centred on how to integrate tech effectively into business operations, with members exchanging advice on balancing new tools with traditional practices.
Cardiff with Kelli McDonnel: Cardiff members were engaged and chatty, with valuable insights on the role of social value in procurement processes, a topic led by Joe Tafurrelli, COO of Liquid Friday, and Susie Abson, Head of Future Economy on behalf of the Cabinet Secretary for the Economy, Transport & North Wales. The discussion on labour’s responsiveness to REC recommendations gave members confidence that their voices are being heard, with additional reflections on tech skill gaps and client quality concerns. The role of AI was again a key focus, as members explored ways to make it work for their unique business needs.
We are thrilled to see members exchanging ideas, sharing solutions, and coming together to advance the recruitment industry. Thank you to everyone who joined – your engagement and dedication make these gatherings impactful and inspiring!
