🏹A random dive — Level 1: Valentine's Day originates as a centuries old day marked to celebrate (for various reasons) Christian Saint martyrs named Valentinus. One rendition of St. Valentine's martyrdom is that he was executed for refusing to convert faith after his arrest for blessing the marriages of Christian Roman soldiers (because the Emperor believed soldiers fought better when they did not have families?). Anyway though — I found that the meaning of the name was pretty cool... Level 2: The etymology of the word "valentine" shows that there is a relation between this word and: valor (worthiness), braveness, strength, value, health, vigor, power, ruler. Level 3: "Valence" in chemistry is typically understood to describe the potency/capability and varying capacities of an element + how it relates to other elements. Every element has its own mix of attributes, strengths and weaknesses which create an endless variety of pair bondings between them all. The root word for everything above being the very same as the Punjabi word "val/bal". Level 4: Keeping these thoughts in mind, perhaps today (Feb 14th, in its modern context) is a day that can also be looked upon to celebrate the valor, virtues, qualities, capacities, and strengths we all try to foster & cultivate in ourselves -and better yet- appreciate in others —because it's these attributes that make us at least tolerable, if not likeable, and worthy to each other. Level 5: Something to think about when we ask Maharaaj for "Bal" (strength/capacity/worth) in our Ardaas: ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਵਲ/ਬਲਿ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਬਲੀ ਹੋ ਸਕੀਏ । Val in Punjabi can mean to be beside of, toward; while Bal, meaning strength/power (or Balee meaning possessor of strength), can also mean to be sacrifice to.
