In 2025, 1-in-5 (141 out of 768 examined, right) asylum seekers who claimed they were children were found to be adults
Since 12 June 2026, when Dept of Justice took over the age assessment role, 1-in-3 (13 out of 36 examined) "children" has been found to be an adult, but the jury is out on 15, and only 8 have been confirmed as children.
So, up to 78% of asylum seekers claiming to be children are adults.
This is our interpretation of figs reported by The Journal, though it doesn't state the period covered (and if there were 768 examined in 2025, then 36 reported by Journal must represent a very short period). In recent weeks, we have seen near record of 30% of asylum applicants claiming to be children.
