After spending 18 days aboard the International Space Station conducting cutting-edge experiments, astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla has successfully returned to Earth. The Union Cabinet too has recently passed a resolution marking the beginning of India’s human space mission, thereby emphasizing the importance of fostering public interest and enthusiasm in the fields of knowledge and science. Against this backdrop, the Maharashtra government has announced the launch of the Jayant Narlikar Science and Innovation Activity Centres, a state-level initiative named after the eminent scientist. In the coming years, the state government aims to establish 28 new technology labs across 23 districts. A budget of ₹192 crore will be allocated over a five-year period for this initiative. A professional team will be formed for the implementation and monitoring of the project. Thus, these centres, named after the great scientist Jayant Narlikar, will serve as hubs of knowledge enrichment for students, schools, teachers and society at large.
