#JohnAndre used his own handkerchiefs as a blindfold & to bind his hands; removed his hat & watch before, gave those to Laune. The “darling of the British Army” oscillated for at least half hr before he was taken down. All those gathered remained quiet. #RIPJohnAndre #OTD1780

Oddly enough, there has been a debate over the years as to where in the #AndreHill procession #JohnAndre was... whether or not he directly followed behind his own coffin or not. (Look up Baldwin’s Theory 😉) #RIPJohnAndre #AmRev #OTD1780

#JohnAndre appreciated the fact that Washington & his staff were not present for the execution. The songs ‘Bluebird’ & ‘Rosalin Castle’ were played as they marched up to #AndreHill , the gallows. #RIPJohnAndre #AmRev #OTD1780

Many may not realize #JohnAndre was originally scheduled to be executed 10/1/1780, but a last minute meeting requested by Gen. Clinton in an attempt to make a deal w/ Washington postponed the execution to noon, October 2. #AmRev #RIPJohnAndre #TappanNY

The black ribband that pulled back his hair would survive intact up to when he was disinterred from Tappan Hill 8/10/1821 & brought home to be interred @wabbey in Nov. 1821. #RIPJohnAndre #AmRev #OTD1780
