Laid to rest today. Always had the clubs best interest at heart and always had time for the supporters. #RipSirDoug
Always a twinkle in the eyes and fondness in his distinctive voice when he reminisced. A pleasure to be part of his Villa family back then #ripsirdoug
@VillaBible @avfcnewsgossip @IanTaylor7 Hope he gets the rousing send off he deserves #RIPSirDoug #AVFC he will be missed ♥️💙
@AVFCOfficial A shame Sir Doug didn’t get the respect he deserved whilst he was still here to see it. He would have been proud to see the support towards him from the holte today, which he very much deserved for what he’s done for the club ! #RIPSirDoug
Not ashamed to say that I shed a tear listening to this. It’s the little stories that mean so much. The Hodgson family will miss you very much. #RIPSirDoug #avfc
"A sad day for Aston Villa and a sad loss to football."
Watch as Dean Saunders pays tribute to Sir Doug Ellis and tells us his favourite stories from the time he played for him at Villa Park.
Doug had his faults, frustrated many by not spending when it could have made the difference. For all those faults he developed the ground, Bodymoor and always kept us in the Prem. Villa through and through. #RIPSirDoug
.@England manager and former @AVFCOfficial player Gareth Southgate pays tribute to former Villa Chairman Doug Ellis following news of his passing @PAdugout
@birmingham_live This article is very distasteful on the day of his passing. What’s the point. He evidently divided opinion at #avfc during his time but there’s no need for this. #RIPSirDoug
I first met Sir Doug Ellis at VP in 1969 & l asked him for his autograph. He refused.45 years later l asked him again after he'd finished his brilliant conversation with @nickowentv @The_Garrick He signed the action shot for me & l reminded him of when he refused in 69 #RIPSIRDOUG
Sleep well, Sir Doug. The man breathed Aston Villa and will be remembered as a pillar of our Club’s great history. #avfc #RIPSirDoug @AVFCOfficial

RIP Sir Doug a sad day for the club to lose one of our own so close to the club. No matter mine or anyone’s opinion of him, he loved this club. #avfc #RIPSirDoug
@BCFC RIP Sir Doug a proper owner who did the very best for his beloved club without putting its existence at risk even under immense fan pressure. A great example to the "speculator" owners of today #RIPSirDoug
Easily my favourite ever memory of Doug.

#RIPSirDoug Divided many opinions but always had the interest of #avfc at heart. He was an absolute gent.
