ICE drivers at the bowser today:
“My precioussss…” 💍⛽
Petrol pushing $2.50/L. Diesel flirting with $3/L. Suddenly that EV charging cable looks a little less scary. 😂
Oil doesn’t need your loyalty. It just needs your credit card.
#Disruption has a price signal. #EV #RIPICE
Those nostalgia-tinged musings sound like a requiem for an automotive giant: once great, soon forgotten. No matter how they spin it, the industry is moving in one direction, & Toyota still seems reluctant to fully embrace it. The bigger they are, the harder they fall. #EV #RIPICE https://t.co/tsLQLtGdPZ
I love me a good signal, like a well roasted Peking duck. 😅
China’s April NEV seasonality break has my attention.
Feels like the first proper macro hint the Iran/Hormuz situation may already be accelerating electrification demand in the world’s largest automarket. #RIPICE
China’s April 2026 NEV sales delivered an unusual, bullish signal.
→ ~1.14M passenger NEVs wholesaled
→ +42% YoY
→ +1% MoM
→ Retail penetration past 60%
Historically, April has almost always been a pullback month after the March rebound. This time, sales kept rising.
That matters because China’s EV market was already entering mass-scale maturity. A geopolitical oil shock layered on top of an existing EV S-curve doesn’t create the disruption from scratch. It amplifies it.
Iran tensions, shipping risks and oil volatility increasingly reinforce the economics and energy-security case for electrification.
China’s NEV machine just keeps compounding.
Most new passenger cars sold in China are now plug-ins.
What stands out most is this is happening during a weaker broader auto market. ICE sales continue struggling while EVs keep absorbing share.
Some April standouts:
→ BYD: 321k NEVs
→ Geely: 135k NEVs
→ Leapmotor: 71k
→ Zeekr: 31.8k
→ Xpeng: 31k
→ NIO: 29k
Chinese EV competition is becoming absolutely ferocious now.
The really important macro point:
Even through the lithium crash cycle of 2023-2025, EV adoption never actually stopped scaling. Sentiment collapsed. Demand didn’t.
Now the industry is entering the next phase:
→ higher penetration
→ export expansion
→ battery scale
→ ESS acceleration
→ downstream supply chain tightening
This is why I keep saying the disruption story remained intact underneath the noise. https://t.co/Gh3jPGNyoc
This is a BIG signal.
EVs are now holding value while ICE cars are depreciating up to 5x faster.
That flips buyer behaviour. Owners hold longer, new demand weakens, automakers cut production, margins get squeezed.
Meanwhile EV demand accelerates. The loop has begun. #RIPICE
I’ve been warning about this one coming for a while.
Oil volatility is the accelerant. When input costs swing, behaviour follows. That’s how the loop speeds up.
Anyone buying a new ICE vehicle over the past two years has been stepping into a shifting market. Now it’s starting to show.
Depreciation isn’t just a number. It drives behaviour. And it sets off a chain reaction.
Entrenched ICE owners hold onto their cars longer to avoid losses. That chips away at new ICE demand, already under pressure from rising EV adoption.
Automakers respond the only way they know how. Cut production, protect margins, avoid unsold stock. We’re already seeing this play out.
The used ICE market expands. Buyers who refuse to switch delay the decision or downgrade instead of upgrading. Fewer new car sales. More pressure upstream.
Then comes the squeeze.
Lower volumes weaken pricing power and compress margins. That pushes even more buyers to reconsider.
Meanwhile EVs keep gaining. Not just on cost, but on perception. People are finally seeing through decades of misinformation and FUD.
Add fuel volatility into the mix and the equation becomes even clearer.
What starts as a depreciation shift becomes a feedback loop.
Demand weakens. Supply adjusts. Margins compress. Alternatives accelerate.
The buyer pool narrows.
This isn’t just market movement.
This is how replacement begins. Cost always wins. #Bettrification accelerates.

Test drives end the debate. Fuel prices finish the job.
This isn’t marketing—it’s economics.
“I’ll never buy an EV.”
→ test drive
→ checks fuel prices
→ installs charger
Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated 😉⚡ #Bettrification #EV #Solar #Renewables #RipICE
Bro Mexico was moving like they had something to prove 😂😂 #ripICE
Mexico cooked ICE the other day 😤⚽️🔥
I couldn’t resist. After reading a recent CleanTechnica piece on EV subsidies, I had to add a few points of my own. EVs aren’t “better because subsidies exist.” Subsidies just make the advantages impossible to ignore. New post👇#Bettrification #RIPICE #LFP

@LithiumIonBull Congrats, you’re gonna love it! We’re upgrading to the new Model Y next month too—total game changer. It’s not just a car, it’s the next evolutionary step. ICE? Makes zero sense on any level anymore. Welcome to the electric future ⚡🦾 #EV #Tesla #NoGoingBack #RIPICE
I’m so sad to wake up to the news that #ValKilmer has moved on, he was one of my favourite actors with that beautiful voice. The doc film he made about his life, Val, was a beautiful window into his soul and journey, may he forever rest in peace. #RIPIce 😞
Val Kilmer has sadly passed away at the age of 65 Top Gun: Maverick was his final film role
RIP, Iceman 🕊️

🕊️🤝#RIPIce #FamiliesForever

@VitalVegas It stood tall for many many years, only to be completely removed in a day?! This is truly the end of an era. #RIPICE
Climate action and energy security are a potent pair of incentives in the European car market. #RIPICE
