π’ Empowering Communities Through Information and Dialogue!
Yesterday, @Mwarpkenya Garissa Office through the #RITAIProject conducted a community capacity strengthening session at Kulan Location, Liboi Sub County in Dadaab Constituency. The engagement focused on the Access to Information Act 2016 and communication #challenges affecting the #community.
Community members discussed key concerns including poor #roads, limited #water access, unreliable #electricity, #youth and #drugabuse, delayed public #information, and weak communication channels between the community and duty bearers. Existing platforms such as barazas, WhatsApp groups, religious gatherings, and youth forums were also highlighted as important spaces for information sharing and engagement.
To strengthen follow-up and accountability, a 10-member committee was selected to champion the issues raised.

Empowering Communities Through Information!
On 13th May 2026, @Mwarpkenya , through the #RITAIProject, held a vibrant community capacity-building session at Maalimin on the Access to Information Act, 2016. The forum brought together #women, #youth, #elders, and #community representatives to strengthen awareness on the #right to access #information and promote active civic #participation.
The session focused on #publicparticipation, #budget-making, #memorandum writing, and how to legally request information from #public institutions. Participants were also sensitized on the role of the Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ) in addressing denial of information complaints.
Through interactive discussions, the community identified key challenges including lack of #water piping and inadequate #electricity supply. To drive action, a community committee was formed to follow up with relevant authorities and advocate for lasting solutions.

On 12th May 2026, @Mwarpkenya , through the #RITAIProject, convened a community forum in #Mpeketoni to create awareness on the Lamu County Access to Information Act 2025 and document key service delivery #gaps affecting the community.
Participants were taken through the process of requesting #information from public institutions and engaged in discussions around major challenges facing Mpeketoni Sub County Hospital, including inadequate #staffing, poor #infrastructure, #water shortages, poor #roads, and #drainage systems.
The forum also empowered community members on the budget-making process and how citizens can actively #participate in #governance and #accountability processes.
Most importantly, committees and action plans were formed to strengthen community-led follow ups and advocacy for improved service delivery.

The session brought together #women, #youth, and #elderly community members to strengthen their understanding of #governance structures, access to public information, and the role of the Commission on Administrative Justice.
The training also created a platform for the community to openly discuss key #challenges affecting Dujis Village, with lack of access to clean and safe #water and the absence of an #ECDE centre emerging as major concerns.
To strengthen community-led #advocacy, participants formed a community committee that will engage relevant authorities and follow up on the issues raised in pursuit of lasting solutions.

On 28th April 2026, @Mwarpkenya , under the #RITAIProject, conducted impactful capacity-building workshops for community groups aimed at strengthening the use of the right to access information as a tool for improved #governance.
The workshop played a key role in enhancing participantsβ #understanding of both the #legal and practical #frameworks surrounding access to information. Community members were equipped with hands-on skills on how to effectively navigate available #information systems and channels to request and obtain information from #public institutions.
Through these sessions, participants gained not only knowledge but also the confidence to demand #accountability, #engage constructively with duty bearers, and take an active role in governance processes. They are now better positioned to monitor #servicedelivery, #advocate for their priorities, and meaningfully contribute to decision-making at both local and county levels.

π’ Bridging Information Gaps, Building Community Confidence!
Yesterday, @Mwarpkenya , through the #RITAIProject, convened a crucial community forum aimed at addressing two key issues: creating #awareness on the Access to Information Act and responding to growing concerns around the ongoing #land demarcation process in Kashmir.
The forum came at a critical time when sections of the community expressed #fears of being left out of the #demarcation exercise, as some households had not been captured in the initial survey. This had raised anxiety about possible exclusion from the final title deed process.
Through open dialogue and engagement, MWARP supported committee members and local leaders in understanding that land demarcation is being conducted in phases. While the first phase covered part of the area, a second phase is set to follow, ensuring that no #household is left behind. This clarification brought much-needed relief and reassurance to community members, restoring #confidence in the process.
In addition, the forum strengthened the capacity of the committee by deepening their understanding of the Access to Information Act, emphasizing that access to #information is a #right for all citizens. The committee acknowledged their responsibility to share accurate and timely information and committed to keeping the community informed every step of the way.
Moving forward, leaders pledged to work closely with the community to ensure #inclusivity, #transparency, and #accountability throughout the demarcation process.
This forum marked a significant step forward, transforming uncertainty into clarity, and empowering the community with knowledge, confidence, and a shared commitment to ensure every voice is heard and every household is included.

Reflecting on @Mwarpkenya's implementation of the #RITAIProject across #Lamu and #Garissa Counties, one truth stands out that rarely gets the attention it deserves; the quiet but powerful transformation happening among young people and women who have found the courage and conviction to meaningfully participate in the development agenda of their communities.
Over the course of this week while on a field assignment in #GarissaCounty alongside @UraiaTrust , the lead partner in the RITAI Project, we had a rare and invaluable opportunity to hear these stories directly from the people living them.
Masalani, in Garissa County, is a case that speaks volumes. Since the onset of devolution, this community had been on the receiving end of broken promises, projects commissioned on paper but nowhere to be found on the ground. The gap between what was planned and what was delivered had become a familiar and painful reality.
What we witnessed, however, tells a different story. Through targeted, community-led advocacy, that reality is changing. Markets have been constructed. Roads that were once impassable have been repaired and tarmacked. Residents who once struggled for something as basic as clean water now have access to it.
These are not small wins. They are proof that when citizens, especially women and youth, are equipped and empowered to hold their governments accountable, directed advocacy delivers. It delivers visibly, tangibly, and on the ground where it matters most.
