Salahuddin Ammar, the General Secretary of the #Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (#RUCSU), has once again sparked widespread outrage after openly calling for the murder of #atheists and individuals associated with the #AwamiLeague. Ammar was elected as part of a panel widely considered to be backed by Islami Chhatra #Shibir, the student wing of #JamaatEIslami. He also served as a coordinator of the Students Against Discrimination (#SAD) Movement during the July–August 2024 anti-AL protests, which later evolved into the National Citizen Party (#NCP). On 5 May 2026, Ammar published a Facebook post, since deleted following widespread public backlash, stating: “Do not kill cats and dogs. But don’t spare atheists. Don’t spare Awami League.” When challenged by another FB user who argued that religion is a matter of personal choice, Ammar responded: “I will directly ‘deal with’ those who insult the Prophet and belittle #Islam. First Muslim, then human. #Atheism is not freedom of expression. Their only aim is #Islamophobia.” This incident is part of a broader pattern of controversial and alarming behaviour from Ammar. Since August 2024, Ammar has played a central role in intimidation, coercion, and mob violence on and around the Rajshahi University campus. Among the most serious allegations: •Murder case involvement: Ammar was named as a key accused in the killing of university staff member Abdullah Al Masud, a former Chhatra League leader. Masud was lynched by a mob on the night of 7 September 2024 in the Binodpur Bazar area. Although a murder case was filed by his wife the following day, she reportedly faced pressure and was unable to name any suspects in the complaint.
