I've seen some mega finfluencers, big as well as wannabe Twitter handles and Podcasters talk about "RETURNS" #Gold/#Silver has given in terms of CAGR, as compared to #Equity. This is because in the last many decades, unfortunately, after countries removed the concept of #Gold/#Silver/#Bullion backed CURRENCY VALUE and CURRENCY CIRCULATION (coins/mudra etc), both these precious metals were REDUCED TO A TICKER ON YOUR TV CHANNELS.
Fact is #Gold #Silver were original STORE OF VALUE. It wasn't an ASSET in the true sense. What do u count as an asset in your balance sheet? Such an expenditure which is expected to give regular revenue over the next many periods of time. So land building factory shares bonds FD they are all assets as they all are bought by spending money for a motive of future revenue stream as well as cashflow from them.
The other option is to keep money at home or in the CASA account. Where we don't expect any return (0-4% pa) but it is kept for emergency use over and above the revenue generated by the asset mentioned in earlier paragraph.
The problem is, INFLATION, the hidden termite that is eating into your money at home or in CASA. So #Gold/#Silver are used to keep that EMERGENCY money as well as to protect it from the INFLATIONARY TERMITE. Do u ever count your bank balance or cash in hand and say "isme kitna CAGR milega"? Why? Cuz its that part of the fund that is not meant to give a CAGR at all! But storing it as an EASILY FUNGIBLE #GOLD #SILVER, helps not only in emergency but also meant to protect the downside risk to that fund due to inflation.
Hence #Gold #Silver are just an INFLATION ADJUSTED STORE OF VALUE. Now imagine, this STORE OF VALUE which was just a HEDGE, has doubled and trippled. AND THEREFORE IT IS A VERY VERY BIG DEAL. Those housewives and those wise individuals who have been saving some portion of money in a store of value, know better than those who have ruthlessly exploited the item as an ETF or tradable ticker for way too long.
Now I don't know whether we are building an excess or this will revert back to mean soon or not so soon or the mean itself is going to change forever, but STOP COMPARING #GOLD #SILVER TO ASSET CLASS. START CALLING IT A STORE OF VALUE OR INFLATION ADJUSTED #RAUPYA #RUPYA, ull understand its #Value.
