Crew of the #RVCapeFerguson spotted this dramatic plume off the Barron River today. Major flooding from the #bigwet event 2 weeks ago has dispersed offshore, but there is still a lot of fresh water around!
Day 2 of post-flood monitoring on #RVCapeFerguson, now just south of Cairns. We use Niskins to collect water samples, while attached reversing thermometers help measure the vertical structure of flood plumes.
A stormy sky and eerie green-brown sea. We are on the #RVCapeFerguson right now measuring coastal #GreatBarrierReef water quality after last week's 1-in-100 year flood events.
A condition report for the region will be published in a few weeks. The monitoring team return to the #RVCapeFerguson later this month to survey reefs around Cairns.
