They lived on the edge of the valley, where the river had always been a neighbour.
On Wednesday the neighbour became a wall.
Water rose from every side.
The house stood like an island in brown thunder. Doors would not open.
Phones died.
The family climbed to the highest room and held each other.
Outside, the world watched a video: a small building, a roaring flood, and faces at a window.
People said they would not last the night.
They did not argue with the water.
They only prayed. Hours later the roar thinned.
Mud settled.
When rescuers reached the lane, they stopped. The house was still there.
Walls stained, rooms ruined, but the roof had not fallen.
One by one they came out — parents, children, an old grandmother who had not let go of the prayer beads.
The flood had taken the road, the fields, the neighbour’s shed. It had not taken them.
God is great.

A massive wave of ice, rocks, mud and floodwater travelled from the high mountains deep into Nepal, destroying roads, bridges, buildings and other infrastructure along the way.
1. Glacier / High Mountain - A lower part of a Himalayan glacier collapsed, sending huge amounts of ice and rock downhill. The exact cause is still being investigated.
2. Lhende Khola - The ice and rocks crashed into the Lhende Khola, triggering a massive flood filled with mud, rocks and debris.
3. Rasuwagadhi - The powerful surge reached Rasuwagadhi, around 20 km from the suspected collapse site, and entered Nepal.
4. Timure - The flood rushed toward Timure, sweeping away roads, bridges, buildings and vehicles.
5. Syapru Besi - The flood continued toward Syapru Besi, causing major damage to homes, roads, hydropower projects and other infrastructure.
6. Trishuli River - Carrying the flood wave deeper into the valley.
