#UnrealEngine Made a video demonstrating #UE4 Vite with both #Raytraced GI and Reflections + Tessellation coming ahead of this UE5.7 build featuring no GI, No RT, no reflections at all (not SSR even).
The video starts me going through the settings of this project and packing the build since some users were wondering about the actual setup for this build.
Results on #nvidia RTX 4080S / 4K Native:
UE 5.7 NO Dynamic GI, RT fully disabled. Runs at about 150-185fps
UE Vite RT GI + RT Reflections + Tessellation about 154-240fps
UE 5.7 #Lumen + Lumen Reflections 64-115fps (noticeable drop when looking at reflections)
As you can see the #UE5 #rendering overhead from #Lumen #Nanite and other related features it's so big that the UE4 based Vite is able to come ahead even while running #raytracing effects.
It's a showcase for how UE4 Vite in reality outputs much higher fidelity on end hardware and how unoptimized #UE5 is.
In simple terms it's the engine, not the devs. Any dev on it will suffer severely degraded performance and by result will have to lower fidelity in their titles. Simply be at engine tech disadvantage compared to UE4 and proprietary engine titles. That's why UE5 titles are often doing 720-800p in order to Achieve 60 fps on consoles. (it's truly a blurry mess)
And this is just the #GPU test, as we already known on #CPU UE4 Vite gets to be 4.7x faster than UE5 Chaos because #PhysX. Sadly, the reality is that every major UE5 system is truly very slow including its World Partition system, well known for causing stutters. The UE5 codebase is plagued by bad decisions that makes it a poor game engine. Likely because they were targeting film first as it's a more profitable market.

Sticking to #UnrealEngine 4 is certainly the best technical decision. However, in order to upgrade the visuals for #FinalFantasy VII Part 3 I believe they should seriously consider adopting a #Raytraced GI solution such as #DDGI.
While #Enlighten is a solid solution, DDGI delivers significantly higher bounce quality and performs far better under fully dynamic lighting conditions.
I’ve just uploaded an updated build of Unreal Tournament on Vite running DDGI, showcasing its performance. It has now been tuned to maintain a solid 60 FPS(including 1% lows) at native 4K on #PS5 level GPUs.
For reference, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth runs on PS5 at dynamic 1800p-4K 30fps
This is only possible from a UE4 codebase, not #UE5

Naoki Hamaguchi explained why they choose to stick with UE4 instead UE5 for FF7 Remake part 3! Again says development is "progressing very smoothly"!
"Around the time we began developing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Unreal Engine 5 was just entering its pre-launch phase.
What makes Unreal Engine 5 groundbreaking compared to Unreal Engine 4 are two features: Lumen, its lighting system, and Nanite, which allows you to portray dense graphical detail.
These represent the current trend in graphics pipelines, and of course, such pipelines are important to us as well. However, if we had tied our development schedule and milestones too closely to Unreal Engine 5’s roadmap, we would have risked our own progress being stalled if the engine encountered any kind of delay.
For that reason, we decided early on in development of FFVII Rebirth to stick with Unreal Engine 4. We’re using a graphics pipeline built in-house, which also makes optimization and porting to various hardware more straightforward...
So even for the final installment of the trilogy, rather than rebuilding our pipeline from scratch in Unreal Engine 5, it’s far more efficient for us to use Unreal Engine 4, which we already have a well-established pipeline for. This also allows us to further refine things based on the experience we accumulated with FF7 Rebirth.
With all of this in mind, we judged that continuing with Unreal Engine 4 would definitely lead to a better third installment for our customers. I never imagined it would become such a hot topic (laughs), though a lot of people took it quite positively too.
We’re using the know-how and development environment we cultivated with FF7 Rebirth as a base and further refining it to create the third game. In that sense, the quality will certainly not drop, and we’re working hard to deliver something even better. Production of the third installment itself is progressing very smoothly."

#UnrealEngine #Vite I’ve just published #UnrealTournament Vite Tech Demo.
The performance target is 4K Native 60 FPS for PS5 level hardware (6700/7600/2070) with #Raytraced Global Illumination, #Tessellation #SMAA and Distance Field Ambient Occlusion + #SSAO and some meshes with no LODS.
Image 1(Rtx 4080s 1440p native) Image 2 (rx 7600 4k native)
This is a big jump from UE5.7 that needs to lower rest down to 720p-900p to maintain 60fps with modern rendering features.

#UnrealEngine Vite fork: Here a screen recording of the stylized demo running on the latest Vite source #Steam Deck @ native 1280*800 res. The showcase here is Dynamic #Raytraced DDGI running on the #AMD Van Gogh #GPU 8 CUs https://t.co/LcaNhCDcCG thanks to @_benjer for getting a capture card for this

#UnrealEngine Vite #Fork: I’ve uploaded a Tech Demo Candidate targeting #4K native at 120 FPS on #PS5 class hardware with #RayTraced GI enabled(6700 / 3060). However, based on testers’ data, performance significantly exceeds this target, so I’ll increase visual fidelity to better align with the intended performance budget. In fact, performance here is so good that a GTX 1060 will pull 107fps at 4K (first image), 342fps on a 3060ti 4k (2nd image) #rendering #gamedev

#UnrealEngine is worth noting, that Epic's #Lumen target is just 30/60fps at 1080P on #PS5 level hardware. In contrast, ueVite #fork targets: #4K 60FPS with #raytraced GI on PS5. With our stylized #TechDemo capable of running up to 120FPS 4K Native, still with #RT on PS5

Excellent overview of UE5 lighting features and how you might apply them to different hardware:
