So, Ghana, this is bigger than another exam
It is about whether we keep managing around institutional weaknesses or build systems strong enough to outlive us
We do not seek lower standards. We seek systems worthy of high ones.

And beneath these policies is a person we must never lose sight of:
The Ghanaian Patient
Every avoidable delay between training & distribution to where care is needed deserves scrutiny
Because patients donβt experience policy. They experience its consequences

And the brain drain should alarm us
WHOβs 2026 report found that 62.8% of surveyed health workers in Ghana intended to migrate
At what point do we stop managing symptoms & confront the ecosystem of training, employment, retention & workforce planning?

Ghana needs health professionals
Communities still face critical shortages. We are losing health professionals to migration yet we are pursuing UHC
Yet we discuss medical education & workforce retention as though they belong in different rooms
Why?

If standards differ, harmonise them.
If assessments differ, standardise them.
If oversight is weak, strengthen it.
If an institution falls short, intervene where the failure exists.
Build the system.
Do not keep building around its weaknesses.

This is where Ghana must think beyond CRE
Nearly 70 years after independence, should we still answer weaknesses in our institutions by adding another layer at the end?
Strong systems correct weaknesses at their source
They do not institutionalise workarounds

So we ask:
If competence can be rigorously established through harmonised, standardised & properly supervised final qualifying exams, what additional competence does another stand-alone examination establish?
This is the question at the heart of our case

Let us begin here:
Medical & dental students are not afraid of standards. Our training is built around meeting them.
We want every Ghanaian to trust the competence of the doctor before them.
Our concern is NOT with STANDARDS.
It is with DUPLICATION.
