Nostalgic Remnants A poem by Eric Pellinen Before there were roads to travel lands to explore skies to fly or strange cities to party in there was only a room to occupy strewn with plastic toys made by those who mastered human imagination so you could master yours If you were lucky enough, there was a television sitting in the corner and if you were good enough all you needed was a video game pizza juice to entertain your good friends without doubts, or confusion Your job was nothing more than holding a cheap number 2 pencil writing words or numbers down on cheap paper it may have been a bleary mess or had every wrong answer but there was no need to fear even if you felt guilty, shedding youthful tears Love of Summer was more intense as well as the feeling of Autumn's leaves falling which was the sign of good death to the resurrection of a hopeful Spring There's nothing wrong with looking back at the age where it's too late to change an unforgiving environment put together by unimaginative minds shedding your dollars of pennies all the time Don't be ashamed of escaping a hopeless present by reaching for the nostalgic remnants of a whole past long gone because no matter how things have changed there's always pizza and juice to entertain old friends by playing old school video games.
