@CoastalScoop For all those interested in the Blast Beach and the evolution of the coast, @tynetotees released the story of the Blast Beach last year https://t.co/19T7IVEjQt + hopefully, #ReadingtheRocks will also be released online soon for those wanting to explore further north and south.
A great walk leaning the geological history of our coastline #readingtherocks
On Saturday our Reading the Rocks walk with Professor Dave Roberts (Durham University) took us from Easington Colliery to Hawthorn Hive. We learnt about the ‘ice age’ history of Durham’s coast, visited Easington’s raised beach and learnt how Beacon Hill was once a barrier reef!

Learnt lots about the geology from the Last Ice Age along this 2 mile stretch of coastline. Who knew that there is so much evidence showing changes in our landscape from the cliff face. It is incredible that we have a 3D classroom on our doorstep.

@SpatialityJones @AdamDavidMorton @tynetotees @DurhamCoast @StuartElden @DrJWHarrison @AnssiPaasi I do need to read Harvey before I visit the coast again. I still worry that boulder conglomerates can be misidentified as breccias #ReadingtheRocks can be so much fun
Great set of talks by our 3rd yr PhD students today @GeogDurham. As I sat there listening to @Yucheng_geo talking on the #GreatBarrierReef I couldn't help thinking about parallels with the Permian Mag limestone on the Durham coast @tynetotees #ReadingtheRocks

This is an image of the Great Barrier Reef - shallow lagoons, shallow tropical seas & barrier reefs. This is what the Durham Coast looked like approx 250million years ago! @DaveRoberts2013 has blown my mind again. #readingtherocks #geology @tynetotees

The amazing, surreal Blast Beach at Dawdon coming back to life after decades of mine spoil tipping. Great turnout for #ReadingtheRocks walk 3 today @tynetotees @DurhamCoast
