I was on #Ashraq news today, and was asked about over-the-border strike permission, if this would mean crossing a #RedLineForRussia. My answer: 1) Ukraine has already hit many times what Russia claims to be Russia: Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk regions. No consequence (what also mean that deep in its heart Russia does not believe this is Russia); 2) Will strikes over the border against Russian international recognised territory be crossing a redline now? No. Ukraine has many times hit Russian sovereign territory, up to 1400 km behind the border - no consequence; 3) Will Russia use nukes? No. Russia always threatened to use nukes, and never used them. Artillery, tanks, strikes at Crimea - every time before Russia said they would use nukes, but they never had. This time will be the same. Russian military doctrine says nukes can be used in a case of a substantial threat to existence of Russian state, and a strike against an airfield or an artillery firing position just across the border will not be a case; 4) Russia has brought this on its head by its actions alone. If Russia had not daily bombed Kharkiv from safe positions across the border, this permission would have never been issued. So it is a Russia-home-cooked-development. We cannot therefore speak of any "Western escalation", it is a pure response to Russian escalation. And Russia knows it. Dixi.
