Reform UK’s proposal to scrap PIP and the health element of Universal Credit for working-age adults is a devastating blow to disabled people across the UK. Slicing £50bn from the welfare system by forcing arbitrary savings ignores the day-to-day economic realities of living with long-term conditions and disabilities. This isn't sound policy, it’s short-sighted and patently evil and will: • Drive working-age adults into severe poverty by stripping away essential daily living support. • Overburden public services by shifting downstream financial pressures onto an already struggling NHS and local social care services. • Create an arbitrary hierarchy by pitting individuals deemed to have "severe" conditions against those with other life-altering physical or mental health conditions. Targeting essential health and disability benefits is a direct threat to the safety net. Real reform requires investment in support and accessibility, not pulling the rug out from under millions of people.
