The @EndoSRN #ReframingEndo conference was perspective changing, and uniquely brought together diverse stakeholders from across the #endometriosis field to break down siloes, and establish a shared vision for the future. Some of my reflections below ⬇️
"To move the endometriosis field forward and evolve both our definition of the condition and effective treatments, we need to continue breaking down barriers between stakeholder siloes"

My newest blog with the @ResearchonWH is out now! I explore personal reflections on #endometriosis and shifting the dial towards #holistic care! Inspired by work from my PhD and reflections from the @EndoSRN #Reframingendo conference earlier this year, check it out ⬇️
"When I envision the future of #endometriosis #research, I envision one which strives for personalised #medicine."
This week, Danielle Perro tells us about the current understanding of endometriosis and CPP. Read more using the link below! ⬇️⬇️

Back in July @CamUniFemtech attended the #ReframingEndo conference
Check out this fabulous visual thread for their key learnings and understandings🧵👇
Last week we attended the #ReframingEndo conference, which brought together #social #scientists, #biomedical #researchers and #third #sector representatives to discuss how #patient #care can be improved by understanding the experiences of those with #endometriosis 1/n

And this month, our Co-Director Prof Andrew Horne @horne_research was on the ‘Reframing Social & Biomedical Divides (via Tech?)’ panel at @BritishAcademy_’s #ReframingEndo Conference:
Reframing #Endometriosis: Power, Politics & Potential Futures 🎗
We’re so proud of our team 👏

Last week our visiting lecturer, @StellaBullo, led a panel at the British academy-funded conference on 'Reframing Endometriosis: Power, Politics and Potential Futures.'
The panel explored the theme 'Speaking Differently About Endometriosis.'
Fantastic work!

the #ReframingEndo conference has been a fantastic example of how to effectively do a hybrid conference

Lauren Kornegay @the_endoblack speaks to the importance of doing research with community. "inclusion is the takeaway" - on closing panel of #Reframingendo
Describing pain in a different language can reduce the impact of your pain - saying I'm in pain in Spanish can come across as it hurts - which doesn't come anywhere close to being an effective descriptor @StellaBullo #reframingendo
"don't do research about me, without me" quote provided by Lauren R Kornegay, founder of @the_endoblack about being more inclusive & proper community representation. Also shared some horrific history of medical experimentation on African Americans #reframingendo
Final panel #ReframingEndo: Speaking Differently About Endometriosis
On language, metaphors & imagery (the barbed wire).
Deborah Bush (online – @WorldEndoOrg), Lauren R. Kornegay (@the_endoblack), Emma Cox (@EndometriosisUK), Neelam Heera-Shergill @cystersgroup & @StellaBullo.

Fertility is certainly part of the picture, but framing endo as a fertility issue creates barriers for relevant treatment re: pain, other symptoms @endometriosisuk #ReframingEndo
Endometriosis is a condition that affects "women" of a "reproductive age" @msemmacox of @EndometriosisUK says this language needs to change. Endo doesn't only happen between the average ages of mid-twenties to forty when you're supposed to recreate #reframingendo
"[people of colour] are not hard to reach ... we're systematically erased" @cystersgroup talking about inclusion in research #ReframingEndo
The language of endometriosis is colonial in itself - @cysters speaking to how colonization erases racialized and gender diverse people from endo care at #reframingendo
No direct translation for endometriosis in Punjabi says @neelamheera, founder of @cystersgroup showing that language reflects it as a Western perceived issue. Time to change the language in many ways to reflect the endo community #reframingendo

Final panel #reframingendo - @DeborahBush_NZ talking about how images perpetuate misinformation, marginalize viewers. Uses image of uterus wrapped in barbed wire: "[This image would lead one to assume removal of the uterus would fix their endometriosis, it won't]"
