Not when I was in just recently because of MCAS although they wouldn’t accept it or treat it.
My bp was consistently low and dropped to 75/50 & 80/50 but also went up to 110/60. I mentioned iv fluids but non apart from 1 litre when I first got admitted.
The aim of the admission was to prevent malnutrition.
My sats were & are still fluctuating between 90-94, mostly 93. They’d just tell me to inhale deeply a few times despite me saying that won’t show a true reflection of my oxygen status.
I’ve come home worse than I went in. Given medication to speed up gut motility but nothing related to the actual problem of MCAS .
They gave me two diagnoses , functional gastric pain syndrome and the following week severe constipation which I already knew.
When I asked how can you explain the allergic reactions to low histamine low fodmap and gluten free diet they’d put me on, he simply said I don’t know.
I’ve had hives, breathlessness to the point I had to text my husband so he’d ring up because my bell wasn’t alerting anyone as it was handover although they took 20 mins to answer the only time I used it 🤷♀️
I bloated up every time after eating, the pain was slightly less than prior to admission. On one occasion after having seizures I was struggling to breathe, was choking and grabbing at my throat. I lifted my head to the side and upwards to keep my airway open and eventually I started coughing and it all stopped but I was covered in hives.
How all that can be linked to a pain syndrome or constipation I’ll never know.
Impo, they didn’t know what MCAS was so instead of a quick google search they ignored it. I kept saying Dr Weir wanted to speak with them . He wanted me to have an NJ tube so my gut could calm down from this 14 month flare up following a nasty UTI. They didn’t take it until last Monday and didn’t email him until the day of discharge last Friday (if they actually did).
This was at Royal Bournemouth Hospital. I had sodium cromoglicate which I purchase from Germany but wasn’t allowed to have it because they couldn’t prescribe it as the Trust doesn’t allow it to be prescribed.
I have a session with Chloe Hall a dietitian recommended by Mast Cell Org. It was her, my GP & Dr Weir who wanted me admitted to prevent malnutrition despite the fact I’m not underweight yet!
Prevention is better than cure, not at this hospital with my illness.
I did everything they asked of me but their egos prevented my treatment.
I’m home now and worse off than before.
Apologies for the rant. It’s been a tough day. Trying to recover from hospital stay as have severe ME.
I will never go into hospital again regarding my illness.
Unfortunately, NHS hospitals are not the place for patients like myself because they just don’t have the knowledge base and don’t appear to want to learn unfortunately.
