Lady Hale concludes "modern families come in many forms today, which was unthinkable 60 years ago. We must recognise that parentinghood is about the quality of the home surrounding a child.
"That is vitally important in deciding where their best interest will lie." #ResModFam
Lady Hale says: "The symbolism of marriage is changing. Since 1971, marriage has lost virtually all the legal trappings associated with old patriarchy - it does its best now, to address inequalities between breadwinning and maternal spouses." #ResModFam
