After over a decade of persistent efforts since 2011, #Revcon4 established the Open-ended Technical Expert Group (OETEG) in 2024.
The OETEG will tackle challenges in SALW identification, marking, record-keeping, and tracing, adapting to advancements in manufacturing, technology, 3D printing, and modular weapons.
This is a pivotal step forward in global arms control.
In 2017, UN Secretary-General António Guterres made violence prevention a top priority.

Last week the Survey's @gendercal spoke at two #CrimeCOP12 side events. Drawing on recent engagements at #RevCon4 and the #ATT, he highlighted that effective implementation requires gender-responsive, all-of-government and data driven policymaking, with regional partnerships.
On a personal note, presiding over #RevCon4 was a deeply meaningful experience.
The dedication of States and other partners to tackling the threat of illicit small arms reaffirmed my belief in the importance of this work.
Our success has the potential to change lives for those under constant threat of violence and create safer communities worldwide.
Key outcomes from #RevCon4:
1️⃣OETEG: Recommendations on SALW tech/design by 2026-2028-2030.
2️⃣ International cooperation: New assistance matching system & UN funding mechanism.
3️⃣Anti-diversion: Measures across the entire life cycle of small arms.
4️⃣ Gender & youth mainstreaming: Focus on equal participation and addressing violence.
5️⃣ Demand-side focus: Tackling socio-economic drivers of illicit arms, linking efforts to development.

One of the most important milestones of #RevCon4 was the establishment of the Open-ended Technical Expert Group (OETEG).
It took over a decade of persistent efforts—from the initial acknowledgment in 2011, when States highlighted the challenges related to identification, marking, record-keeping, & tracing—to the pivotal establishment of this initiative in 2024.
Among the most pressing concerns are 3D-printed, polymer, and modular weapons, which complicate the effective implementation of the PoA and ITI.
Words on paper mean little without concrete action on the ground—real progress demands commitment, implementation, & results.
The outcome document of the #RevCon4 is no exception.
When properly implemented, the PoA can significantly impact the lives of people in our cities and communities worldwide by reducing the threat of illicit SALW.
It also addresses the barriers that limit women's participation in these processes; it promotes coordination between arms control authorities and gender equality bodies, as well as the collection of data disaggregated by sex, age and disability. #RevCon4
