Kidan was heavily involved in the high-profile early-2000s lobbying scandal alongside disgraced former lobbyist Jack Abramoff. He pleaded guilty to fraud and conspiracy charges relating to a counterfeit wire transfer used during their $147.5 million purchase of SunCruz Casinos and in 2006, Kidan was sentenced to 70 months in federal prison and ordered to pay millions in restitution. He ultimately served roughly two and a half years before being released in 2009. Despite his immense personal wealth, Kidan has managed to avoid paying back most of his court-ordered debt. Following his 2006 conviction, Kidan was ordered to pay $21.7 million in restitution to the victims of the SunCruz Casinos fraud. Because his staffing firm, Empire Workforce Solutions, and his real estate assets are legally shielded through privately held Delaware corporations, his exact personal salary is masked. This strategy has allowed his massive restitution debt to remain largely unpaid. Kidan has established himself as a high-profile Republican megadonor. He has contributed millions of dollars to Republican campaigns over the last decade. This includes donating upwards of $270,000 directly to Donald Trump’s political action committees, as well as hosting fundraising events at the Mar-a-Lago resort.
