.@SenatorBanks delivered remarks on the Senate floor today about the killing of recent @KelleySchool graduate Brett Scrogham:
“…I am heartbroken by this senseless act of violence. Brett’s family are in my thoughts and prayers, and I hope that the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department will arrest the murderer soon, who is still at large…
“…Nothing will ever bring back Brett. And if we hope to prevent more young lives like his from being taken far too early, we need to double down on our efforts to enforce law and order.
“We need to support our law enforcement officers and demand that our elected officials throw the book at violent criminals instead of letting them continue to cause mayhem in our communities.”

NEW details in a fatal police chase we first told you about earlier this month.
21-year-old Corion Foster of Indianapolis faces charges including Reckless Homicide and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Ever Receiving a License - Results in death.
According to court records charges were officially filed today for the May 8th crash.
Foster is accused of going 86mph along East Washington near Lasalle just after IMPD tried to pull him over for driving erratically. They say he crashed into the Family Dollar sign killing his passenger Lesley Yarrell III. The speed limit is 35mph.
At the time of the crash there were warrants out for Foster’s arrest for domestic battery out of Marion County from January. He also has pending charges of disarming a law-enforcement officer, battery resulting in bodily injury to a public safety official and possession of cocaine from last year in Madison County. He also has a prior conviction for domestic battery out of Marion County. It was decided March 2024.

My reaction to Marion County's fifth homicide in a week.
I recently heard about the passing of Brett Scrogham, who was shot Thursday at 6 PM in a parking garage in an apparently random act of violence before he was set to meet his family for an Indians game. Unfortunately, this marks at least the fifth Indianapolis homicide in the last week. I wanted to share my deep condolences to the family and friends of:
Brett Scrogham,
Gregory Montrez Anderson,
Za Sean Allen Davis,
Jamell Williams, and
Patricia Wieber.
We can't allow ourselves to become so callous that we gloss over the fact that five people who were all with us just one week ago had their lives tragically cut short by violence in the crossroads of America
But this is not only tragic, it is infuriating. Like many families who occasionally take in an Indians game, we can't stop thinking about how something so wholesome and so American was turned into bloodshed and horror for this family. While we don't know all the facts, we do know that if families don't feel safe from random violence downtown at 6 PM on a Thursday, our capital will fall apart.
I want to clearly and unequivocally say that the level of crime and disorder in our capital is not normal. This is not acceptable. And it does NOT have to be our future.

'Completely disingenuous'
Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears is pushing back against comments made by Carmel Mayor @SueFinkam following the arrest of an alleged carjacking suspect with a rap sheet 14 pages long.
Days after the arrest, Finkam took to X to criticize the criminal justice system, particularly Marion County.
"We have residents in central Indiana committing crimes and Marion County can't put them in jail and keep them in jail,” Finkam told me today.
Mears pushed back.
“We need to make sure that we're being accurate and honest about what's actually taking place," he said in an interview with me this afternoon.
